In Wrecks Shadow™

ROUTE - A ( Marseille - Olbia )
Project author : Petr Medek
Dear Divers,
You all must remember your most interesting and beautiful dives. And it doesn`t matter whether in your homeland or abroad. Some of you are attracted to tropical waters with its rich underwater life. Others would rather explore dark depths of lakes and quarries . Naturally, there would be some, just like ourselves, who get carried away by the beauty and romantics of wrecks.
Over the last few years, we have been actively involved in the search for wrecked ships, sunken planes, submarines and other means of transportation that involuntarily ended up on the sea bottom. Our interest is not only of diving nature, but also that of historical and technical aspects. We would like to share our experience in this field and invite you to join us on one of the exciting trips to uncover the unknown and have some enjoyable diving. Allow us, therefore, to introduce our completely new exploration trips In Wrecks Shadow
This project, as the name tells, is suitable for advanced wreck divers. However, even "average" divers may find things very exciting along the way. Especially UW photographers will for sure appreciate likely encounters with big animal creatures that like to hang around wrecks. The main objective of this project is to introduce you to wrecks as such, as well as tell you more about their history, cause of sinking and také you on an exciting journey through the bitter past and the present. We are going to visit different wreck sites from the distant past, and those that came to rest in piece not long ago. The opening trip - Route A - of the first year of In Wrecks Shadow will take us to southern France`s Azur coast. We will visit places in northern and western Italy and will dive into dark blue waters near the islands of Capraia, Elba and Corisca including northern portions of Sardinia.
Other trips that are being prepared will take us to see the whole of Sardinia, after that on to the south around Sicilia and all the way to Malta. These projects are likely to be offered in the first half of 2007, or alternatively in the second half of this year. There are plans ranging from the Jaderske sea to the Otrantsky channel. In the western direction we are planning trips along Spain on to the Atlantic. The trips should also entail western France, England, Germany, Poland, Norway..We are going to see the Red Sea and even more exotic places. We are also preparing more challenging technical dives and exploring journeys. The sea offers unlimited opportunities for solving mysteries - to satisfy the human desire for discovering the unknown.
Another goal of these endeavors is to bring together individuals with similar hobbies and similar willingness to do something exciting and fun - this should lead to forming a solid team. Make sure there is enough information to print a guide covering wreck sites in Europe and the rest of the world. Closely connected with this project is the so called never-ending film about specific wrecks which are to be covered during the trip. We would like to extend our invitation to you to become not only the participants but also the co-authors.
The opening trip of the first year of In Wrecks Shadow - Route A will start on the southern coast of France. We are sailing away on April 28, 2007 in Marseille on a new, and for some of you, well known catamaran Valhalla. The ultimate destination after 8 weeks of sailing is the port of Olbia on remote Sardinia. The whole first trip will consist of 8 stages, each a week long. The crew has an experienced captain, tour guides, and 8 divers who will come and go every seven days. Because getting off the catamaran takes place in another place than that of boarding, shuttle bus connection will be provided. Given the higher diving standards needed to accomplish such a trip, only those with enough wreck and deep diving experience will be accepted ( terms of participation are listed below). For the less experienced we are preparing trips with less demanding activities marked as Basic. Such trips will be included on a regular basis. Furthermore, during such a trip it would be possible to accomplish an AOWD course at reasonable cost and get an opportunity to participate in other projects.
Every stage has its own timeline that must be met. We will, therefore, expect everyone to abide by the rules - a commonplace practice in such trips. During one stage we will sail to five pre-selected wreck sites with two dives for each wreck. There will be alternative projects in case of bad weather. Some wrecks would need to be searched for and, thus, we count on the active effort by the crew. It is obvious that such a trip is not about recreation with swimming. Rather it is about learning and exploring. As mentioned earlier, there will always be a guide on the board who will brief you on each wreck`s history and current conditions you need to be aware of in order to plan your dives.
As an In Wrecks Shadow participant you will receive a printed guide with a list of wrecks containing basic information on them. A must be part of the guide is a log-book where you will enter your notes on specific wrecks. Additionally, as favor of the company, you will be given a T-shirt, baseball cap, stickers and membership card - all with the In Wrecks Shadow logo. All these presents combined cannot give you the excitement and fun you experience when personally involved in our trips. We will do our best to make sure you return home fully rejuvenated and energized.
Be there with us.

Terms and conditions of participation
In spite of the fact that this project is being prepared for a wide diving community, it implies a rather demanding campaign. That is why certain basic criteria for acceptance have been set. We welcome such character traits as being team-oriented, abiding intstructions, taking necessary safety precautions, being actively involved and ready to help. Not to mention meeting the qualification standards for diving. Every member of the In Wrecks Shadow trip team must meet the following:
Hold a valid diving licence of at least AOWD level, P** or an equivalent in another training system.
For diving under 40 meters hold a licence allowing diving with decompression mixes.
Show diving experience of at least 60 logged dives, of that 20 logged dives as deep as 40 meters.
Show experience with diving off a boat.
Show ownership of suitable dive gear.
Submit current diver`s insurance.
Submit a doctor`s examination, not older than 2 years.
Mimimum age of 20.
Be willing to take "some action".
For the less experienced and beginners there are trips Basic with optional AOWD courses at a special price. Theses special trips are always scheduled at the end of every expedition and the above restrictions 1, 2, 3, 4 and 8 do not apply. You have to have, though, a basic diving certificate and show experience with at least 25 logged dives. Other conditions for acceptance remain applicable as stated.
Please note: the owner of the In Wrecks Shadow project reserves the right to change or adjust the course of individual stages and to use alternative arrangements ( other wrecks or wall diving) - especially in bad weather conditions with one purpose in mind: not to jeopardize lives and personal belongings of the participants. No financial remedies may arrise.
